Weekend Best Bites - 3rd to 5th Sept

Hey Folks,

Well, with the Bank Holiday mayhem for one year now over, it’s time to settle back into the routine of a regular weekend, well at least for a week or two that is and in doing so we also relax back into our usual format, looking at our best bites choices across Soho Vauxhall & elsewhere, to help you decide where to be & be seen.

So, let’s crack on & first take a look at Soho, with The Shadow Lounge taking top slot for us this weekend, as the team kick start theirs early with an extra special “Hola” tonight (Thurs 2nd Sept) with guest D.J. Alex Taylor from Australia, who joins fellow Oz Terry Vietheer on the decks. We devoted an “Extra Bites” post to this which you can check out via direct link http://discomattweekend.blogspot.com/2010/09/extra-bites-hola-thursday-2nd-spetember.html but this very much looks like our hot ticket for the weekend & so should be yours too. Friday in Shadow Lounge territory sees the return of our “foxy ladies”, Minx & Miswhite, both mixing up the music naginficently at “Therapy” with plenty of uplifting, funky & chunky house, while on Saturday, resident jock Andrew Elmore gets us hot under the collar with another “Inferno” session of delectable dance tunes. Over on Wardour Street & favourites Profile & Lo-Profile also muscle in on the first weekend of September with Profile Friday boy Phil Marriot back from his Manchester Pride exploits to ease you into a full on frolic downstairs in Lo-Profile when Nathan 6 & Tony English will be serving up plenty of invigorating house hits to get you bopping into Saturday, while the flowing night, it’s the turn of Craig Daniels to get your dancing feet going in profile, before Hugh Stevenson & then Brent Nicholls see you through to Sunday with their barnstorming beats. Our other best bites go to Barcode on Friday with another hairy beary “Cave” gathering, Hifi Sean joining Leonardo Glovibes on the decks, Rupert Street on Saturday with Alessandro Londra supplying the sounds while on Sunday The Edge hold another “Blah, Blah, Blah” bash, with the latest poptastic chart toppers filling your ears.

Down in Vauxhall & it seems like recovery is the word for some, while others forge ahead with pulsating parties. We will be throwing our focuses open to both "Megawoof" & "Queer Nation" this weekend, so keep your eyes peeled for those, both parties scheduled for Saturday (4th Sept) & full details out in a while. As for our other best bites, well no Friday would be quite the same without “Onyx” and no post bank Holiday the same without a “recovery” party, with regular main room residents Jamie Hammond & Phil Marriot back with a bang, while usual favourites Lisa German, Ariel, Lee Harris & Tuomo Fox mix it up across the other two spaces. Leaping forward to Sunday & “Beyond” is in recovery mode too, but with Steven Sharp’s dream team of D.J.’s in place to storm your Sunday morning, although expect a slightly more sedate affair compared with last weekends’ packed & pulsating mayhem magic. However with Dower, Pitron & Adams in charge of the main room, Christian & Rivas doing it in the newly extended Blackbox and Cermann & Dickson topping you up with tech in the Terrace, the collision of "Queer Nation", "Megawoof "& Barcode, not to mention visitors from further a-field, should ensure an energetic event. And if "Orange" is your way, then a citric end to your weekend should be on the cards, preceded of course by the non-stop partying that is "Later" at Fire & "Booster" at Area. Our other best bites go to “Tonker” at The Eagle on Friday, when promoter & resident jock Tim Jones will be in birthday celebration mode, Saturday seeing Barcode head our picks, with Gonzalo Rivas, Hifi Sean & Nick Tcherniak stirring up plenty of musical trouble & a semi-post "Orange/Trade" reunion, fab!, while on Sunday a trip to the grassy knoll & then indoors to The RVT for another “S.L.A.G.S./Chill-out” should be on the cards, The DE Experience an essential ingredient to sinking your Sundays into debaucherous chill with Sean Sirrs & Andy Almighty rocking this venerable institution through till midnight.

As for our alternatives, well top of the list is “Paradise 45” over at The Dalston Superstore (DSS) on Kingsland Road, as Guy Williams & Serge Santiago return to fill out your Friday with fulsome nu-disco house, but be warned this one gets absolutely packed, so make sure you are there in plenty of time. The DSS also have another hot date in Saturday when “Hot Mess” takes over the venue, D.J.’s Fil Ok & Holestar mashing up a mix of electro & heavy metal down in the basement, while it’s all about Old Skool upstairs with JoJo De Freq, then on Sunday (5th Sept), after a Bank Holiday break, “Rhythm Boy” returns, although watch this space for details of the guest D.J. rounding off your week with soothing sounds. Our other best bite alternative shouts go first to “Disco Fag Bar” which re-launches on Friday with a real fanfare, promoter Wayne Shires pulling out all the stops with resident D.J’s Luke Howard, John Sizzle, Jeffrey Hinton, Laurent C, & Borja Pena all making an appearance, this very much being the place out east to drink dance & homo-socialise. Then, on Saturday its Hackney’s turn to be out & proud, as they host their own Pride March, very much setting out to be a statement against the recent rise in homophobic attacks in the borough, so show your support by getting across in time for the 2 p.m. start at Hackney Town Hall, the march taking you through to Shoreditch Church. Striking a different note, well plenty of notes probably, is our pick for an alternative Sunday in the hands of the drag duo Crystal de-Canter & Kelly Mild, as they host another “CK Sunday’s” at Halfway To Heaven just off Trafalgar Square and inject plenty of bawdy humour & fun to the end of your weekend & there ain’t nothing like a good old laugh see you into Monday with a smile.

Further details of all these, our best bites for the weekend, can be found in the popular press and/or via the events pages of social networking site, Facebook.

Now, as always we fit in a mention for favourite clubbing website SeenQueen who have their own diary of what’s hot in the capital & beyond during September, which you can check out at http://seenqueen.com/clubs, plus they have a special feature on the upcoming “Supersize” Paris Pool Party at the end on the month which is well worth a read at http://seenqueen.com/features.

Right, that’s it for another Best Bites post and our weekend, which, for us, kicks off tonight with a trip to “Hola” to catch up with Aussie’s Alex Taylor & Terry Vietheer, then tomorrow (Fri) we definitely jet across to Dalston for “Paradise 45”. On Saturday, we will be looking to make up for missing out on "Orange/Trade" by popping to Barcode Vauxhall for a musical three-way with Nick, Sean & Gonzalo and will no doubt then have to make personal apologies to Steven Sharp in “Beyond” next door , this afterhours audacity finishing off our frolicking. So, if you see us out come say hi, but whatever you do & wherever you are, have a brilliant time and as we always say.....”Go There! Be There!”
