Weekend - 5th to 7th March

Hey Folks,

Having missed out on last weekend’s activity across gAylist/land London, the feedback we got from a whole host of you was that Paradise 45 was the place to be on Friday, having an had an incredible launch & SuperMartXe on Saturday was a huge success yet again, the stunning stage show the centre piece for Logan’s “Samurai” spectacle. Despite a few isolated reports of coatcheck issues, we look forward to a coming weekend full with plenty of action.

As usual, we delve into the choices and pick the two that have caught our eye most, also running down the best of the rest, hopefully all coatcheck issue free!!

First up is brand new club night “Matador” which launches tomorrow (Fri 5th) at Barcode Vauxhall, promising to “bring cutting edge balearic sounds with a sexy London vibe”, being the brainchild of Evolved Events promoter Oliver Mohns, who has joined forces with Manu Garcia (promoter of Ursus Cave) and Barcode, to inject some Spanish vitality into your Friday’s. “Matador “will be taking over Barcode’s space, front & back, transforming the venue into a pseudo style bullring of supercharged music & entertainment, with the promise of the kind of no holds barred club production you expect from Evolved Events. With an extensive list of top notch resident D.J’s the launch night will see D.J’s Jonny M & Steven Artis take to the decks, joining special guest Andre 1, star of the massive party “La Demence” in Brussels, who is sure to bring a bag load of euro style house to the night, with Oliver M also spinning some sounds in amongst all the activity. In terms of the entertainment, well speaking with Mr Mohns, we are told the venue will be setting up a stage in the club bar, where Raul Gonzales will mastermind a spectacular show with plenty of grunt & glamour akin to the theme of the club, dancers also performing through the glass area above the club bar dancefloor, not to mention a collection of drag queens appropriately dressed mingling with the crowd to boost the atmosphere & performing to delight in the front bar. It goes without saying that “Matador” has attracted a huge amount of attention, especially given the change in the gAylist clubbing landscape as the New Year dawned, although it is clear the man behind Evolved Events is still passionate about injecting vitality & choice into the scene and “Matador’s” aim is to provide its audience with innovative & progressive new music, combined with a sexy house party feel. To this end, as a special launch offer, the team are offering free entry before midnight with a flyer, ad or facebook printout, the door charge being £4 thereafter. “Matador” kicks off at 10 p.m. running through until 6 a.m., with special drinks offers available for those with Barcode tags, details of these can be found at http://bar-code.co.uk/ and for more on “Matador” go to http://evolvedevents.co.uk/.

Our second choice goes to “Megawoof”, which returns for its monthly outing at Hidden in Vauxhall this Saturday (6th March) with a full on leather theme which should attract an even hornier muscled up crowd of guys than usual. Having only graced its doors a couple of times, “Megawoof” holds some superb memories for us & was one of our 2009 highlights, there being no doubt that it pulls in one of the sexiest crowds in town, so if you like your men to be men & a little hirsute too, you will definitely be in for a veritable feast of a treat. Since moving to Hidden, “Megawoof” has settled into a new period of vitality, with the venue allowing the team to take full advantage of the sociable style it has become renowned for, yet allowing the music to also speak volumes. And with three rooms offering their own style of sounds, there is music to cater for all tastes, whether it be the more uplifting yet funky style of house served up in the “Red” room by Daz Saund, Sugarbear & Tim Mclone, the more laid back & light sounds in the “Blue” room dished out by D.J’s Rob & Massimo or the full on progressive house in the “Black” room, courtesy of BabyBearBell and none other than the Italian Stallion himself, Pagano, who we heard stole the show last month and is on amazing form at the moment, so is sure to grab the headlines again. Adding to the magical music will be a host of leather clad go-go hunks to keep the eyes pleased, although given the hunky crowd that “Megawoof” always seems to attract, there should be plenty on offer simply from the customers through the door, who will get the chance to have a frolic behind dark curtains in the special play area. Now, with the theme being such, you would be wise to pitch up in your best leather to impress, although the wearing of this attire is not mandatory, however don’t expect to bring your fag hag along as it is a men only club and we are talking men with a capital M, (yum yum). Doors open at Hidden at 11 p.m. with the club night running through until 6 a.m. Entry is £10 for members or £14 for guests on the door, although advance tickets are available both via outlets Prowler, Clone Zone, DV8, Rob & Paris Gym or online at http://megawoof.com/ where you can also get details of membership costs etc. So if it is pumped up, testosterone fuelled excitement with the best looking muscle bear crowds around, then get yourselves down to “Leather Megawoof” for a guaranteed horny hunk of a time.

So, what else is on offer to tempt you out? Well Friday sees Lo-Profile start a weekend of superb sounds with Luke Hope & Brent Nicholls in charge of the D.J. decks, while upstairs in Profile Bar, Phil Marriot will add his own Gaydar style to proceedings in what has become a very popular haunt to be & be seen. Barcode have another “Ursus Cave” evening with Hi-Fi Sean back with some terrific tunes, while Shadow Lounge hold another “Therapy” session Kris De Angelis holding the fort while Paul Heron suns it up in Oz. Other Soho offerings include Ku Bar in Frith St which celebrates its first birthday, while bigger sister Ku Klub have another “O Zone” party. Down in Vauxhall it looks like being a bloodbath of activity with clubs going head to head, “Rudeboyz” at Fire making & return & clashing with “Fitladz” at Union which has an established reputation, while “Matador” faces competition in the form of “Onyx Atlantis”, with the new promotions team going to town to transform Area and welcoming Pagano back to the decks. Even the afterhour’s market in Vauxhall looks like locking horns as newbie “Boost” launches at Union with Steven Gellar back in the promoting game and is well worth a visit, while A.M. runs deep into Saturday with another fun filled frolic. Away from this hotbed of activity, The Eagle opens its doors to another “Tonker” night, while The RVT go all alternative with their “We Built This Speedwagon on a Prayer”, although for something really alternative, why not head out to Shoreditch & The Dalston Superstore, which hosts new night “Can Can”, hosted by Mark Moore & Jerry Bouthier, with Princess Julia, Erol Sabadosh & Divine Incest selecting the sounds. Also out east is “Discotheque” (the London version) at The Hoxton Pony with Bugaloo Stu dishing up a plethora of pop, while closer to home, the “Circus” show rolls into town at the very posh Met Bar in Mayfair with Jody Harsh attracting a like minded celeb crowd. Saturday looks like being the poorer sister compared to Friday for a change, but Lo-Profile does its best with Nick Evans & Gonzalo pumping up the volume, while regulars “Boudoir” & “Fabulous” return to The Edge & Ku Klub respectively. Down south and Beyond opens for business bright & early for another extended “Belief” session, while “Deep Inside” does it at The Eagle & “Duckie” lauds it up at The RVT. Sunday seems set to be dominated by “Orange” at Fire in Vauxhall, when promoter Steven Sharp celebrates his birthday in style, while The RVT have their usual “S.L.A.G.S/Chill-out” session and The Eagle has another gymkhana gathering for “Horse Meat Disco”. Details of all these events can be found in the popular press.

So, that’s our choices up for this weekend, but don’t forget, for the best gAylist events on offer, visit http://seenqueen.com/ which has an extensive diary stretching right to the end of March and welcomes “Orange” back to its listing as well as giving a big hint of what is on the horizon for Easter.

As for us, well our weekend started even earlier than usual at “Gay City Rollers” 1st birthday bash last night and what a hoot we had, even if we fell on our butt & caused carnage on the skating ring. So, sporting bruises & a sore back, we head off to Industri tonight (Thurs 4th) for some social schmoozing with Minty & co, Brent Nicholls providing the soothing sounds, while on Friday we wade through the Vauxhall bloodbath and head for “Matador”. Saturday sees us pitch up in leather at “Megawoof” then believe it or not, end up in “Beyond” for their “Belief” extended session, polishing off the weekend with a glass of champagne with Mr Sharp & superstar vocalist (our roller skater partner in crime) Tonnic at “Orange”. So, if you see us out come say hi and as we always say.....Go There! Be There!.
