Weekend - 12th to 14th March

Hey Folks,

Well, it seems that this weekend gAylist/land London is drawing breath for what seems a non-stop forthcoming four weeks of activity, which of-course includes Easter. With some old club friend events returning to meet brand new ones launching, we will be focussing on this in a special preview due out in the next few days.

In the meantime, what is on offer to tempt you out as spring makes its appearance? Well, despite it seemingly sparse of activity, we look at two, which in their own way, should prove real hits this weekend and the also cover the best of the rest.

First up is another product of the vibrant alternative scene that is Shoreditch as the Dalston Superstore in Kingsland Road welcomes a new monthly Friday outing to add to extensive list of events. Brought to you by super Swede D.J. Per Q.X. and partner in Scandinavian crime Alejandro Ascencio, Eurotrash this Friday (12th March) promises to bring you bucket loads of outrageous over-the-top audacity very much akin to the Gutterslut style of partying, attracting a like minded crowd that love their music & company to be overt & interesting. And talking of the music, Eurotrash is definitely the place where you will hear the latest upfront euro nu-tech & hard house and well as plenty of funk & punk all mish-mashed with a little disco to make for some of the freshest sounds around and a wonderful departure from normality. Adding to the launch will be the extra-tastic addition of a bountiful birthday bash of a celebration as playful Per is the boy blowing out the candles on the cake and it would be rude if there wasn’t more than a hint of a Swedish theme to the night, as not only will Mr Q.X. will be the cute looking & Stockholm’s finest, Staffen Lindberg in the decks, but the country’s biggest ever export will be running through the veins of the night, especially when you sink the special Eurotrash cocktail for this birthday bash of a launch night, a tasty “abba-colada”, and if we are to believe the wild & whacky Per, who tells us that “abba’s in da house”, we can just feel that surge of nostalgia rushing back, not two weeks after sinking into the brilliance of Abbaworld, fabbatastic! If that wasn’t enough, the upstairs bar will be hosted by Sandra Viagra with Tranny Karaoke (any Agnetha’s & Frida’s?) which should be abbalicious and to top it all entry to the whole night is free, as will be the “Eurotrashed” afterparty at Vogue Fabrics in Stoke Newington High Street, when Laurent C will be taking to the decks, joined by the aptly called Swedish gay mafia boys Per & Staffen. This night looks like being one colossal hoot from start to finish, with Eurotrash kicking off in the basement at the Dalston Superstore from 10 p.m., running through until 2 a.m. & Euortrashed overlapping, getting going at midnight and running deep into Saturday morning. For more details (do you need them) you can either mail the birthday boy at perqx@live.co.uk or visit http://dalstonsuperstore.com/.

Our other focus goes to super afterhours & award winning club Beyond, which rarely gets our full attention as the party generally speaks for itself, this week being no real exception, but we thought it about time we gave it another shout & thumbs up in big print. There is little doubt that in our lifetime of clubbing there are very few, we mean those we can count on one hand, that have influenced us so much, that the mere mention of their name spurns real excitement in our voices, has us giddy in expectation and we just keep going back for more. Then there is Beyond, without question having become our favourite club of all time, even toppling the terrific Trade to top spot in our ratings. Words cannot describe just how good the club is and since launching back in 2001 at Colloseum we have been in love with its brilliance like no other club event. Having taken a break in 2006, it was back with a vengeance in 2008 at Area and has, since then, really found an extra special identity growing into its home superbly. And like Beyond, Area has its own angelic qualities, sporting probably the best laser lighting we have seen in any venue, an incredible sound system in the main room, but moreover one of the best vibes across three spaces we know of and has our most favourite dancing spot, courtesy of a special space right by the D.J. booth in the main arena. Then you look at some of the resident D,J’s and you can realise that the music matches Beyond’s brilliant reputation, the likes of Jamie Head, Mikey D, David Jiminez, D’Johnny, Hi-Fi Sean & Alan K joining the legend that is Steve Pitron and like the club, this impeccable list it speaks for itself. Serving as the “official afterparty” for many of the big Saturday night clubs, Beyond can get absolutely rammed after events like SuperMartXe, Lovechild & Matinee, although through its “Belief” parties, the club stands up extremely well in its own right, indeed, for us, some of the best nights (well mornings) we have had are when Beyond is simply Beyond, which attracts its purist crowd. And this Sunday should be no exception, as it looks like being THE event of the weekend, with all your favourite D.J.’s playing out some stonking sounds and with the club just getting better week after week, it should be yet another corker. Now, for the uninitiated, Beyond is at Area in Vauxhall and kicks off from 6 a.m. this Sunday morning (14th March), the club running through until 1 p.m. Advance tickets at just £10 are available at Soho outlets Prowler, Clone Zone, DV8 & The Box which are well worth grabbing, although you can also go online at http://clubtickets.com/, or decide to pay on the door but it will be considerably more.

So, what else is on offer to tempt you out this weekend? Well, Lo-Profile looks like being a superb alternative to the Vauxhall action on Friday as the amazing house diva Katherine Ellis makes a special appearance, joining D.J. legend Steve Pitron as well as the talented Nick Evans on the decks, while Phil Marriot warms everything up in Profile Bar upstairs. Barcode go all butch with another “Cave” outing, while Shadow Lounge prelude their “Gold Party” next week with another “Therapy” session, Kris Di Angelis in charge of the musical massage. Down in Vauxhall and its all go as The Eagle hosts the raunchy “Tonker” night, while it’s another insane outing at The RVT as “Kimo Krush” take over this iconic south London boozer & go geisha for March with a special guest performance from Akimbo Moonchild. Barcode have their 2nd new night launch, this week it’s the turn of club promoter Patrick Lilley who presents his New York style venture “Music Is The Answer” (sounds familiar!) with the likes of Clington, Pierre Nedd & Supadron in the NY room, while Micky Galliano & DBoyz take charge up front in the London room, Patrick also celebrating his birthday. “Onyx” will be opening their doors for another session at Area and then it’s an afterhours clash as “A.M.” returns to its old format, going head to head with new kid on the block, “Booster” which holds sway at Union. Over east and while “Eurotrash” looks like taking the limelight, cool club “Caligula” has another weekly steamy session at the Bathhouse in Bishopsgate Churchyard. Saturday sees Lo-Profile do it as only it knows best, with Phil Hewson & Alessandro in charge of the super sounds, while sexy Steven Artis runs rampage at Rupert Street. Barcode welcome back Guy Williams to the D.J. decks, while it’s another red hot “Inferno” night at Shadow Lounge. Down saff and the uber alternative “Carpet Burn” rips up The Eagle with Prince Nelly & guest jock Paul Burston (he spins as well as writes!) take care of the music, while the incomparable “Duckie” does it again at The RVT, although out east may be the place to be as “Club Motherfucker” celebrate their 7th birthday at Bardens Boudoir. Sunday has its usual activity with “Later” at Fire in Vauxhall dragging post “Beyond” party heads to another afternoon of audacity, while The RVT goes easy (not!) with their “S.L.A.G.S./Chill-out”, The Eagle keeping you going deep into the night with another “Horse Meat Disco” stampede, the delicticious & citric “Orange” keeping it going well into Monday morning. Details of all these can be found in the popular press.

Now, we just have time to mention a date for your diary, as Matinee returns to London next Sat (20th March) for their “Circuit” event. We have issued a special preview, which you can find in our “Hot Dates” section and also watch this space for a full feature on Easter coming up next week. In the meantime, why not check out http://seenqueen.com/ which has a full listing of the best events for the rest of March & deep into April plus much much more, including a brilliant new sample music mix for download.

Well, that’s our choices up for this weekend and it may well be another quietish one for us as we still nurse our bad back. However, we will be out tonight (Thurs 11th) for a very special “Industri” at BCV, why special?, well come down & find out. Tomorrow is definitely birthday day, so will do our best to celebrate with both Per Q.X. & Patrick Lilley and will sleep easy on Saturday, rising for a brilliant boogie (back permitting) at Beyond on Sunday morning. So, if you see us out come say hi and as we always say........Go There! Be There!
