Weekend - 9th to 11th July

Hey Folks,

Pride in London may be over, but the coming weekend of activity in gAylist/land London is showing no signs of abating and with the weather warming, the sun expected to shine & Spain into the world cup final, we are very much in mediterrano mood & loving everything latino (this is Disco Matt spell O.K.?!). As a result, without question our hottest date this weekend is Matinee’s “Open Air Summer Party”, our preview of the event (direct link http://discomattpreview.blogspot.com/2010/07/matinee-open-air-summer-party.html) providing the perfect build up to what looks like being the best Matinee of 2010 so far and given its magnitude, we will be devoting a special extra bites post with all the latest info direct from the promoter & his team, which is due out a little later.

In the meantime, what else has grabbed our attention this coming weekend? Well quite a lot really, so once again plenty of weeding has had be done & we pick on our two other top tips, along with shouting for the best of our rest options.

First up is the return of the testosterone charged club that panders to the muscle hunks of the bear scene, as Megawoof hits the Vauxhall decks running this Saturday (10th July) at Hidden for a special pre-party within a party. Now it seems we just can’t get away from those latino intentions, as this funky chunky club night will be celebrating their invite to Barcelona’s massive Circuit Festival in August, Megawoof returning to our favourite European city for the second year in a row, so in its usual slot of the first Saturday of the month next month, will actually be out in Spain celebrating in style & no doubt attracting one of their sexiest crowds, all honing in on Mgeawoof in the sun for this special week of partying, the festival being renowned for pulling in some of the most drop dead gorgeous guys, the bear brawn pack definitely muscling in on the action in Barcelona.

So, as we always say, no great party is a party without an equally good pre-party & this Saturday looks like being just that, as Daz & his team roll out all the usual ingredients that make Megawoof a magnet for butch bravado, three rooms of superb music headlined by the return of the man that, for us, epitomises everything extra special about this event, Italian stallion Pagano no doubt creating yet more drama on the dancefloor, following massive performances last weekend at both Onyx & SuperMartXe, as well as captivating audiences at Madrid pride’s closing WE party. And, deservedly so, he takes his rightful place in Megawoof’s main (red) room, flanked by Leonardo Glovibes & Tim McCloone, mixing up proceedings with chunks of uplifting sounds to compliment Francesco’s more progressive beats, while David Eph & Diddy stir it up in the second (black) room with some tougher selections, usual residents Rob & Massimo providing a more relaxing soundtrack in the middle (blue) room. So with the music set to scintillate, the party atmosphere will be pulsating with plenty of circuit festival goodies giveaways, not to mention free shots to the first 100 through the door, as well as Hidden’s multi level cruising areas and playroom to satisfy your horny & hunky desires, but if all the hairy muscular action gets too much, you can cool off in the revamped & stylish outside terrace. Now, tickets are on sale both online at http://megawoof.com/ as well as at Soho outlets Prowler, Clone Zone & DV8, members entry a mere £10 while guests get in for £14, Megawoof running from 11 p.m. till 6 a.m.

Our other biggie goes to Beyond which rolls out another of its infamous “Belief” parties this Sunday morning (11th July) from 3 a.m. rather than its usual 6 a.m. start. Whenever the team decide to lay on one of the extended events, you can pretty much guarantee that it pulls in not just a whole host of party goers stretching their Saturday into a Sunday, but also draws a crowd that want to start their weekend fresh, especially given that Matinee follows & many will want to warm themselves up for this Mediterranean monster at Ministry Of Sound, by getting into stride with the brilliance of Beyond. So this next chapter in the “Belief” series of parties, looks like being another smash, not least as special guests will be D.J’s/producers Syke “N” Sugar Starr, the globally acclaimed duo that have played in some of the world’s biggest clubs and to massive audiences at that, a veritable feast of dancefloor anthems having been given the S “N” S attention, including “Ticket To Ride”, “Watching Me, Watching You” & “So Many Times”, plus a whole string of remixes that make this one hell of a punch pack of a twosome that should go down a storm. And a little birdie tells us that they will be previewing their latest release “So Alive” within their set, so is a bit of a coup for James Brewer & his team.

But it doesn’t stop there, as flying back in from Berlin for Beyond is Eduardo de la Torre, who ripped up the terrace back in June, rocking the place till past 1 p.m. and returns to the same scene of crime this Sunday, following on from the dynamic duo, while the main room madness & mayhem will be masterminded by the dream team of Mikey D, Steve Pitron & Alan K, all three very much still on fire from their stonking sets at last week’s pride party and ready to hit your musical sweet spots again. Add into the mix the tougher tech sounds of Paul Christian, David Jimenez & Gonzalo Rivas, together with Area’s incredible lighting, pyrotechnics & effects, as well as some of the most gorgeous go-go’s. Plus James & the team welcome the one & only Elektra Paris into the fold, who becomes the clubs new hostess & will be overseeing proceedings along with James, as well as choreographing the dance shows, while no smooth entry to Beyond would be the same without Tom Fuller in charge, so make sure you have your advance tickets at the ready, available for just £10 at http://clubtickets.com/ or at the usual Soho outlets, but if you were at last week’s Beyond and kept the entry ticket the magnificent Minty handed you, then its free to get in, bargain!! Beyond “Belief Presents Syke N Sugarstarr” kicks off at 3 a.m., the event running through until 1 p.m. Plus, why not start as you mean to go on with Beyond’s pre-party at Profile Bar & Lo-Profile (check details below) with plenty of giveaways & free ticket offers.

Right so what else makes it into our treasured best choices selection? Well, Soho is spearheaded by Shadow Lounge which satisfies your sophisticated desires with their duo of delectable’s, “Therapy” tonight (Friday 9th) with our foxy females Mis-White & Minx mixing it up again, as only they know best, while the delicious Andrew Elmore returns on Saturday for “Inferno”, with the team giving you plenty to think about in advance of their 9th birthday celebration of a party next Thursday (15th July), so keep your eyes peeled for our preview covering that. But, as we mentioned, Profile & Lo-Profile will be very much in Beyond mindset on Saturday, with Rob Sykes spinning the sounds upstairs & then Nick Evans, resplendent from his massive performance last weekend, kicking the music off down in Lo-Profile, with Beyond resident Gonzalo Rivas getting you very much in “Belief” mood. However, Beyond is very much the theme on Friday, as the dynamic duo of Dower & Pitron steal the Lo-Profile limelight and look like going back-to-back, Steve making up for his absence in the square last weekend & Mikey still smarting from his stunning set at Later on Sunday, so is very much the place to be. Our other Soho shout goes to Rupert Street who welcome back Aussie handsome Terry Vietheer, who will be turning out some terrific tunes on Saturday from 8.30 p.m. adding to the amazing atmosphere in this most popular of watering holes.

Down in Vauxhall and Fire have a threesome well worth our shout, starting with ladz outing Rudeboiz tonight, with special guest Eduardo De La on the decks adding a touch of class to a very chavy chap loving lust fuelled night, the infamous rude boy dancers stripping down to their bare essentials & shooting the senses skyward (maybe shooting a few other things too), while tomorrow (Saturday 10th), it’s the turn of Queer Nation to take centre stage, Patrick Lilley, Clington & crew welcoming special guests Stewart Who? & Matt Lamont to proceedings, joining residents including Jeffrey Hinton, Pier Nedd & Supadon, to paint the perfect picture of prolific music policy straight from those heady days at Substation South. But then the best is to come, as Jay Sharp Vokins’ Later goes all giant on us on Sunday, with their “Pool Party”, a huge water feature installed especially for this event, the team looking like forcing Vauxhall into a hosepipe ban with the amount of water it will take to fill the biggest paddling pond seen this side of the river ever. With plenty of wet & wild games hosted by some truly hot poolside boys, all the usual outdoor antics, plus music courtesy of residents Paul Martin, The Oli & Terry Bryan, towels provided by The Locker Room & swimwear inspired by Dor & Swim Shack, it definitely speedos time down at Fire Sunday afternoon. Our other big highlight has to be Booster, which follows Later’s summer splash, special guest D.J., the legendary Graham Gold, making it big in Area’s main room and is sure to draw in plenty of enthusiasts.

Finally, picking through the plethora of alternatives, The Dalston Superstore comes up trumps once again this weekend, as “Eurotrash” returns tonight, with very much a Gutterslut feel to it, with special guests Peo De Pitte & Nic Fischer filing Per QX’s boots down in the basement with plenty of nu-disco & electro beats, our super Swede sitting back & hosting this screamer in Shoreditch, while upstairs the fabulous Princess Julia joins Alejandro Ascencio spin some more sophisticated & trendy (well euro trash pop actually!) sounds. Then on Saturday newbie “Happy Shopper” takes centre stage, the Dalston version of Dale Winton in the form of MA Butcher hosting this superstore shoparound, the Sink the Pink dancers performing their new checkout routine & music having dirty disco style stacking your sounds shelves, SuDan Disco bursting your baskets upstairs and Sink with Sax On Legs & Bright Light filling your trolley’s downstairs. However, our main man in Shoreditch is Wayne Shires is definitely gathering speed & attention with his “Disco Fag Bar” tonight, extra special guests Stereogamous Oz Superstars (aka Seymour Butz & Paul Mac) join residents John Sizzel & Jeffrey Hinton for a right royal mash up at East Bloc, although if “Act Art” is your thing, then Marc Massive & Oliver Frost’s eighth outing will be right up your street, well The Islington Works’ Torres Street to be exact, with censorship going under the microscope & plenty of mind expanding experiences to boot. Our other big shout goes to those who want to escape London life for a day, or an evening at least, as this Sunday (11th July) sees Wild Fruit’s “Sunday Sundae” take place at Audio on Brighton’s Marine Parade, another smooth summery social schmooze of an event roll into action, with slick house & scantily dressed sophisticates soaking up this Sunday splendour on the south coast.

Details of all these, our best of the rest other offerings, can be found in the popular press &/or via the events pages of social networking site Facebook.

Now, here’s our mention for favourite clubbing website Seen Queen, which has a gAylist club dairy like no other and as they say is “...not just a listing, but a full on recommendation, from fabulous circuit like parties to smaller creative & original club nights...” so is well worth a look at http://seenqueen.com/clubs. However, we are still loving their SQTV summer inspired video (with the tune of 2010, “Devil Talking” as the soundtrack), which looks back over some clubbing highlights or the year, also then looking forward to summery things to come, this and many more available via http://seenqueen.com/videos, they even having added Abba In Japan to their “just for fun” WEBTV section, how camp is that?!?!

Right that’s all from us, but just time to tell you of our whereabouts and having searched out in the shops on Saturday, our Spanish football inspired shirt to sport at Matinee, we will be swinging by Beyond on Sunday morning, then heading to Ministry of Sound for that “Open Air Summer Special”, before rounding things off at Booster with clubbing pal Joel. So, if you see us out come say hi and as we always say.....”Go There! Be There!”
