Extra Bites Special - "Matinee Open Air Summer Party"

Hey Folks,

Now what does M stand for? Well quite a lot of things actually, especially in our books, although on this occasion just one word comes to mind and that is Matinee. Why? Well this most Mediterranean of clubbing brands returns to London this coming Sunday, yes you heard us right Sunday 11th July, which a whole new style & look to boot.

Now if you haven’t seen it already, then best you get yourselves up to speed with our special preview feature on Matinee, which details all the changes that Logan Schmitz & his “Presents” team of schnitzels have made in advance of the Sunday’s “Open Air Summer Special” event. The full report (well worth a read if we say so ourselves!! is available & out now direct at http://discomattpreview.blogspot.com/2010/07/matinee-open-air-summer-party.html).

So, having given much of the background & a fair bit of detail, we wanted to entice you into Matinee at MOS further, first with a big nod towards the music you can expect in this very much Ibiza inspired outing, the open air terrace being the focal point of activity, but plenty more happening inside. Now, the fantabulous threesome playing all alfresco for you will be international megastar Paul Heron, Matinee’s very own Spanish resident Taito Tikaro & relative new name to the D.J.’ing game, but a world renowned dancer to the stars, Marco Da Silva, while inside the line-up is just as tantalising, with Italian stallion Pagano, along with fellow Sicilian splendour Alessandro Londra, being joined by emerging talent Michel Mizrahi.

Now, we will be the first to admit that we have a bit of a mouth on u, especially when it comes to putting our words down on paper & in print, but we very much like music to do lots of the talking. Therefore with this in mind, to whet your appetite for what you can expect, musically wise at MOS on Sunday, what better way than to link you direct to the D.J.’s latest pieces of work. So, our first shout goes to Paul Heron, who will be kick-starting the terrace, we highly suspect with lots of funky & fresh summery beats, but with plenty of the Heron trademark tech & progressive pump thrown in for good measure, loads of examples which you can find in his latest compilation “Summer progressive” 120minues of toe tapping & hip swinging sounds, which you can grab at http://soundcloud.com/djpaulheron/paul-heron-summer-progressive-2010.

Taito Tikaro then takes centre stage, having flown in especially from Matinee’s Ibiza party at Amnesia, literally hours after rocking the white isle with his enormous euro beats. There are so many tracks & remixes this man is responsible for, but without doubt, for us, his best yet is the smash & matinee inspired hit “Addicted” with the amazing vocals of Vanessa Klein, which we are sure will get some sort of pay as the sun beats down on MOS’s terrace with Taito in charge. Now what do you mean you haven’t heard the record yet!! where have you been??, well go check it out in all its glory at http://youtube.com/watch?v=3LZtAoBhaoU and you too will be “addicted to Matinee", this four minute video including shots of the man himself in action.

Rounding off proceedings on this terrific terrace space at MOS, will be the turbocharged presence of Marco Da Silva, who is acclaimed as one of the world’s most photographed faces in the gAylist world, his dancing career C.V. littered with A listers, not least Kylie Minogue, although in turning to D.J.’ing is performances are more littered with euro styled vocal & tribal tunes, rather than cheesy pop (did we say that about Kyle? How dare us!) and in his relatively short time behind the decks has put out three podcasts which give a distinct nod to his style, all of which you can grab now at http://djmarcodasilva.podomatic.com/, each one of the three episodes worth checking out to get a full flavour of Marco’s talent.

Inside and Rupert St, Lo-Profile, & Lovechild resident product of Sicily Alessandro Londra will start up the sounds, this determined & dedicated D.J. having scored notable successes both at home & abroad in recent months (including Beyond!), building on an impressive catalogue of Matinee appearances under the old regime, but also starring at Logan’s last outing in May. Given that he has only been behind the decks full time for about three years, our Bello has broad musical shoulders, this showing through in many of his performances and we would expect no less than a specially dedicated mix to this Matinee “Open Air” spectacular, his 60 minute devotion absolutely spot on in capturing the Ibiza fun filled & sun drenched feel & is a must listen at http://soundcloud.com/djalessandrolondra/matinee-ministry-of-sound-london-2010.

However, in true Sicilian fashion, there will also be plenty of dram on the dancefloor, courtesy of our favourite Italian stallion Mr Francesco Pagano, whose glittering career has seen him play across every continent in the world & net to some of the biggest names in the business. He has been a staple ingredient in the majority of Matinee parties in the capital & whenever he has left out (and that isn’t too often) the events haven’t quite been the same. Playing for Logan at SuperMartXe means Pagano has become a Matinee must and will definitely drape us in drama with masses of mesmeric music, including we are sure, his latest smash track, which you should add to your collection via http://beatport.com/s/t5naqf, “Drama On the Dancefloor” typifying this endearing man’s vitality & energy.

Music aside and we know that Logan has plenty of treats up his sleeve, although whilst we have be tugging very hard, in typical fashion he wants to keep a fair few of them under wraps. However, what we can guarantee, that MOS will be looking its best with plenty of Matinee production & visuals both inside and out. The terrace is being given the Ibiza treatment & extended to accommodate the masses that will be invading Elephant & Castle on Sunday afternoon and the glorious go-go dancers, for which Logan Presents have become famous for, will be out in force, Dilmar, Elektra, Enrique, Naomi, Sandro & co satisfying the eye & strutting their stuff to the splendid sounds. Plus, you can expect a few extra ingredients thrown in for good measure to make this a Matinee to remember.

Now, whilst we know this is a clubbing event, what cannot be escaped is the fact that Spain will be playing in & hopefully winning the world cup final, so, having been in touch with Logan earlier today, we can confirm that he is in negotiations with MOS to set aside a space for those that don’t want to miss out on a Spanish victory, although he is keen to stress that it won’t interrupt the main Matinee proceedings, especially for those that could give a fig. So, if you are thinking of missing out on Matinne at MOS because of the footie, think again, although pleeeaaase don’t bring your dreaded vuvuzela’s with you, a Spanish shirt, flag or panted face will be more than enough!!

So, to that final all important detail reminder and Matinee “Open Air Summer Party” kicks off at MOS from midday this Sunday (11th July), running through until 10 p.m. Advanced tickets priced at £15 tickets still available online at http://clubtickets.com/ as well as at Soho retail outlets Prowler, Clone Zone & DV8, along with SolarStation on Archer Street & Covent Garden’s The Box. If you are lucky enough to be on either the guest or concessions list, make sure you get there early, as there will be no entry after 4 p.m. And as for the all important weather, the latest forecast indicates sunny intervals but high UV levels between the hazy high cloud & temperatures touching on 30 degrees, so come prepared and as the team say “...dig out those summer shades & come see Matinee in a new light...”. More information on what looks like being the Matinee smash of 2010 so fair can be obtained via http://loganpresents.com/.
What more can we say, apart from miss this an you will definately miss out, so make sure you "Go There! Be There!"
