May Day Bank Holiday Recommendations

Hey Folks,

Welcome to your original “weekend recommendations” post & with the second Bank Holiday now nearly with us and it looks like being another busy one, with plenty on offer across gAylist/land London. So we have had to reign in our choices somewhat, selecting four goodies among the plethora of options, but do not fear, we wouldn’t deprive you of alternatives which we will cover later on.

However, we start with a birthday party and what better a way to get the weekend going and on a Thursday too! Rupert Street bar celebrates 12 magnificent years being right in the thick of all the action in Soho. This most popular venue is renowned for delivering divine drinks, fabulous food, magnificent music & all in an amazing atmosphere, attracting a cosmopolitan mix of socialites and we expect the party to be no exception, with a Mexican theme together with special drinks offers on Corona, Tequila, Margarita’s & more!! Expect superb sounds too, as Alessandro takes to the decks. It all kicks off from 8 p.m. with an extension through till 11.30. Entrance is free so how can you say no?!?!

Next up is newbie and we are told a “limited edition” as Logan Schmitz, the promoter of SuperMartXe London, injects yet more action to the scene with “Hype” even if the ingredients seem similar. Why do we say that? well, its at the Coronet, its on a Saturday, this Saturday (2nd May) infact and the D.J. line up looks similar too, with SuperMartXe residents Steve Pitron & D’Johnny included in the line up. However, according to the hype (oops!), the club will be more about the music & performances, with birthday girl Rebekka Brown taking centre stage along with amazing violinist Micah and with D.J. Rafa Ariza (of Matinee & Pacha fame), it probably will be. This is likely to be really positively packed with doors opening at 11 p.m. and the club running through till 7 a.m. Advance tickets are on sale both online at http://clubtickets.com and at the usual Soho outlets, with more available on the door.

Now, the club that seems to be THE talk of the town is another newbie (& our tip top choice), “Famous”, the brainchild of Salvation supreme Steve Elliot, which will take place this Sunday (3rd May) at the fabulous Soho club Floridita. At the T-dance timing of 5 p.m. until midnight, this should really ignite your Bank Holiday with glamorous being the by-word of this new venture (when you see the venue & the sweeping staircase, you will see why). Music will be brought to you by none other than Gonzalo & Pier Morrocco, with Miswhite & Paul Goodyear and style plus opulence will definitely draw a gAylist gathering. Tickets are available online at http://clubtickets.com & at Prowler, Clone Zone, DV8, Box Bar & Soho Gyms. More details of this event can be found at http://famous-party.com

Then, for those wishing to continue the glitz & glamour, what better way than make your way to club Colosseum in Vauxhall for the latest instalment in the success story of 2006/07/08, yes its Matinee which returns for another massive Bank Holiday bash. With all the usual Matinee ingredients, great music supplied by residents, Paul Heron, Guy Williams, Brent Nicholls & Alessandro, with Mark M Forms’ Fierce Intl crew supplying enthralling entertainment, there is more, with a superb PA by Clarence (of “Shine on me” & “Miracle of love” fame) who will be playing out these & his smash new hit “Today is my day” a Matinee London exclusive. Add to that the inclusion of Matinee superstar D.J. Lydia Sanz to the fray and this will be the party to see out your Sunday & party well into Monday as doors will be open for 12 hours from
11 p.m. through till 11 a.m. Go to http://evolvedevents.co.uk for more details & to get your online tickets, or grab them at the usual Soho outlets, with more on the door.

Well, what a cataclysmic choice for this weekend, but we wouldn’t be doing you justice without offering some alternatives, so here goes.
Thursday also sees Industri roll out a Bank Holiday special, with Brent Nicholls on the decks & Minty hosting the usual shenanigans,
Saturday offers Megawoof, which celebrates it’s 6th Birthday at club Colosseum in Vauxhall, with all the residents incl birthday boy Pagano
Sunday see the massive Hustlaball hit town at the Renaissance rooms in Vauxhall with three dancefloors/spaces of sexed up action & music with a sparking line up of pornstars, celebrities & top notch D.J’s

And there are plenty more parties around, so check the regular weekly press pages for more. But why not go to http://seenqueen.com which has the biggest gAylisting around not to mention the latest music choices, pictures, videos news & reviews on everything that is great about the scene.

So, have yourselves a great weekend and as for us, well it will be Rupert St, Industri, Hype, Famous & Matinee (maybe Hustlaball if we are lucky), so if you see us out, come say hi and as we say….Go There! Be There!

Easter Recommendations - Part Four

Well, what a weekend of fun, but with a day still to go, you can guarantee that the best will be made of Bank Holiday Monday, with two mega parties getting our mention.

We simply couldn’t overlook the collaboration between Trade & Orange which as the press release indicates is the meeting of “two afterhours icons for one colossal Bank Holiday event”. There is no doubt that joining forces will be bound to draw not only huge attention, but possibly a huge crowd to boot and there is certainly a huge list of D.J’s lined up to play the event, which will very much guarantee the characteristic tunes both clubs are renowned for. Trade have fave residents of old, Malcolm Duffy, Steve Thomas & Gonzalo, joined by Nick Tckerniak & Lady Bianca + guests & the Orange line up includes The Sharp Boys, Terry Bryan, Paul Martin, with Steve Pitron & many more. With a special P.A. from K-Klass together with big shows & production courtesy of Logan & crew, there will definitely be a party atmosphere, although we remain sceptical of the intentions behind the collaboration & given the fact that some D.J’s have been refused the right to play other events, seems to indicate that clubbing politics rather than laying on a good party are coming to bear, which is disappointing indeed. Open from 2 a.m. until v late, for those planning to attend the event, go to
http://tradeuk.net/ for full details.

Our recommendation to see out your Easter weekend is the fabulous new club launch “bpm”, which plans to serve up a wonderful end to a packed out & fun weekend of clubbing and being the final instalment of the “ménage a trois” threesome, is expected to draw a quality crowd of Salvation & Matinee style-esque folks who won’t want to stop. Held at super club Colosseum, with first rate afterhours being the name of the game, bpm joins forces not only with London’s Hook’d, but the amazing Greenkomm club from Cologne (the most incredible uber sexy underground club around). With four rooms open, a bpm room, with Guy Williams, Lisa German, Paul Heron, Pier Morrocco & Micky Galliano, a Greenkomm room (we will def be there!) with Leomeo, Micky Tiger & Max Sanna, a Hook’d room sporting Andy Farley, Ian M, Pete Wardman & Karim & finally the River Room showcasing Alessandro, Lee Yeomans, Sam Hunwicke & Peter Stevenson, you get three clubs rolled into one & a fourth space to boot. Add to that the fabulous go-go dancers brought to you by the Fierce International crew, its going to be a biggie. And for all you La Leche party goers, don’t fret about getting from Camden to Vauxhall as the team are laying on free bus transport (wicked!), which will be a party in itself! Doors swing open at 6 a.m. and the club is expected to run into Monday afternoon. Details of this newbie can be found at
http://evolvedevents.co.uk/ and the plan is to then go weekly on a Sunday morning, providing a fresh alternative to the monotone afterhours options currently on offer.

Quite how we will make any other events we are not sure, but with (hopefully) the Bank Holiday sun shinning, all the bars will be open & rocking to finish off your weekend, so grab the mags for details.

We also recommend checking out
http://seenqueen.com/ if you need any further persuasion over what is hottest this weekend, with their special “Essential Easter gAylist” clubbing guide out there. Now you have no excuse not to party?!

All that is left to say is have yourselves an eggstravagant (sorry we had to), entertaining & enthralling Easter. Ours is going to be manic with possibly up to nine event reviews on their way, so if you see us out, come say hi.

And as we always say…..Go There! Be There!

Easter Recommendations - Part Three

Our Easter recommendations mammoth post continues (see why we split it up?!), now covering Sunday (12th) which is expected to be the biggest day of the weekend, with the scenes huge club names vying for your attention. And with partying expected to go right through the 24hours, lots of stamina will be required, but with much on offer later on in the day, we will (ok, may!!) be taking a disco nap before the big onslaught.

Disco nap aside, the long day begins with Beyond , which will take centre stage in the early hours and with the Circuit festival crowd mingling with the SuperMartXe bunch, Area should be consumed with a real quality crowd and for those that don’t want to sleep this will be very much on the r(g)aydar. Resident D.J’s Mikey D, The Oli, Jamie Head & Hi-Fi Sean will be in situ & expect other names to appear across the three rooms. Open from 6 a.m. go to
http://myspace.com/beyondlondon for more on happening’s and expect this one to run v late into the day.

Then, swinging into action is the superb Salvation, which finds itself at a new home in Limehouse, the Troxy, which has the billing of being a fabulous setting for one of the most glamorous parties on the gAylist scene. There will be no shortage of stunning dancers, superb music and scintillating surroundings to seduce an equally stunning Salvation style crowd, with the entire resident D.J’s on duty, including Gonzalo, Sharon O Love, Miswhite White & more. With the club running from 8 p.m. until late & just a hop skip & jump on the DLR from Tower Bridge (but then we don’t do public transport!), this has to been on your cards. For further info visit
http://salvation-london.com/

Then, new kid on the block, “Loaded” launches at Area, brought to you by the hunky Hi-Fi Sean Dickson. Billed as “a party just for men”, expect plenty of raunch & testosterone with music to match from Paul Coles, Martin Watkins & Hi-Fi himself, as well as headliners The Hoxton Whores & the Sharp Boys (wow, what a line up!). As if that wasn’t enough, there will be a special P.A. from Bille Ray Martin, all with the amazing Area lighting, visuals & atmosphere. Running from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., this will prove a fun filled alternative to the bigger clubbing offers. For the full lowdown, go to
http://myspace.com/loadedclub.

However, the biggest party of the day, infact of the weekend, looks like being Matinee, as the fabulous La Leche will be centre of attention. With a massive parade through central London during the afternoon over, the team move on to Club Koko in Camden to take our Easter Sunday to incredible heights, with top notch Matinee production, awesome dancing shows from Mark M Forms’ & Nik Ripley’s Fierce Intl. crew, in THE most sumptuous venue we have seen in a long time. A magnificent Matinee D.J. line up of G-Martin & Enrico Argentini, supported by Guy Williams, Paul Heron, Pier Morrocco & Alessandro is going to truly rock Koko and being winners of the Boyz award for the best monthly club of 2008, the team will be riding high but determined to deliver a party to remember. Moreover, being the second instalment of the “ménage a trois” weekend, anything & everything will be expected to happen, so make sure you get your whites out (clothing we mean!!) and join in the fun. Doors are open from 9 p.m. until 5 p.m, so check
http://evolvedevents.co.uk/ for more details & advance ticket booking options.

Other highlights on this mega day include a Gutterslut Easter special at Ghetto in Old Street, with all the usual going’s on & resident D.J’s & hosts, not forgetting a special XXL meets Fusion party at The Arches in Southwark, with the Freemasons making a triumphant return. Check the press for details of these parties and more!

Wow, well, what a choice you have on Easter Sunday, but its not over yet, we still have one more day to party.

Easter Recommendations - Part Two

Well, with the first two days of the weekend under wraps, we now concentrate on Saturday (10th), which sees the pressure increase dramatically with two biggie’s, both expecting to be major draws, sandwiched by a classic offering, a great alternative & plenty of other possibilities

First up is super SuperMartXe at the Coronet in Elephant & Castle, which should prove just as popular as the last outing and with the theme being “Silicone Babies”, expect the unexpected, with a live PA performance from Nalaya Brown & Spanish SuperMartXe superstar resident D.J. Juanjo Martin is joined by Steve Pitron, Pagano & more. Open from 11 p.m. until 7 p.m. it should be fun filled and as they say “it’s kind of fun to do the impossible”. Let’s hope the Coronet venue do just that! Check out
http://supermartxelondon.com/ for more info.

Next up is the return of Love Muscle at the fridge in Brixton. With the recipe not changing from the heady days of the 90’s, including a D.J. line up sporting originals Marc Andrews & Jo Public with guests and a perfect PA in the form of Peyton, performing all of his massive hits, not to mention the hostess herself, Yvette, presiding over the stage shows with a troupe of go-go’s delivering a “Denim & Dicks” show to truly delight. Doors open at 10 p.m. through till 9 a.m. For entrance charges & more info go to
http://lovemusclexx.co.uk/

The real biggie for us though, is the first of three parties, part of the “ménage a trois” weekend of fun brought to you by the massive Matinee organisation. The official London pre party for The Circuit Festival, one of the biggest international clubbing events (to be held in Barcelona in August) takes place at super club Colosseum with an equally massive D.J. line up including Pier Morrocco, Pagano, Brent Nicholls & flying in from Spain, Enrico Argentini, as well as Alessandro, Lee Yeomans & Max Sanna. With stunning visuals, lighting and amazing go-go dancers laid on by Fierce International, it’s a 10 hour extravaganza from 11p.m. until 9 a.m., and a superb start to your “fancy a threesome” choice of parties. Visit
http://evolvedevents.co.uk/ for full details.

Other possibilities include Lo-Profile, which always attracts quality crowd & quality music on offer to match, with Sat hosting Brent Nicholls & D’Johnny on the decks, or Barcode Soho, where relaxing socialising rubs shoulders with the lighter side of clubbing over two floors. Gonzalo will be holding the D.J. reigns and what better a way to warm up for the bigger parties on offer.

Watch the weekly press for offerings and also visit
http://seenqueen.com/ (THE clubbing website) for more details, as Saturday looks like being more than just “super”.

Go There!! Be There!!

Easter Recommendations - Part One

Well, as we turn into April, the first Bank Holiday weekend is nearly with us & Easter is looking like an extremely busy one in gAylist London & indeed in the clubbing scene generally. All the big guns will be out & proud in all their glory, as well as some new outings, so there will be lots to choose from. As a result, we have had to be reasonably selective, but also have had to split the post into four, but aim to offer you as diverse a choice as possible over the five days.

Thursday 9th sees the launch of a new club called Hoof, the brainchild of scene D.J. legend Guy Williams, who is joining forces with the fab Kate Harding to bring you the best in nu disco, deep & tech house & warm techno, with the club being “for lovers of music brought to you by music lovers” The launch party also sees D.J. guests Lottie & Tom Neville play out and the club runs at the gorge Ghostbar venue in Clerkenwell from 9 p.m. till late. Visit
http://hooflondon.co.uk/ for a direct link to the facebook group for more details & as they say “if hoof be the music of love, trot on” we love it!!

Our other big recommendation on Thursday is THE social soiree of the scene, Industri, which rolls out all the stops to kick off your Easter weekend in style at you know where, yes Barcode Vauxhall. With Minty hot crossing her Industri bunnies & disciples, as well as holding court as only she knows how, expect all the usual going’s on & more. D.J’s Brent Nicholls & Paul Heron, the back-to-back specialists, will be doing just that and with an extended opening time until 4 a.m. as well as a guest D.J. to warm things up, this should prove a party not to be missed. Go to
http://seenqueen.com/features & click on the “Easter Guide”.

Good Friday seems to remain as the holy day of the weekend and drawing breath will be a good idea (especially for us with our hectic schedule!!), although for those of you still wanting to party, we suggest trips either into Soho for Lo-Profile, or Barcode where top notch scene D.J’s including Alan X, , Paul Heron & Gonzalo will be playing out, or if you fancy a Matinee warm up then head down to Barcode Vauxhall, where the man who took the V.I.P. room at Matinee Erotica, Alessandro, will be taking centre stage, supported by Saki and guests. This is the official La Leche pre-party so expect plenty of Matinee marvellery. The party kicks off at 9 p.m. until v late. For further details of this superb venue, visit
http://bar-code.co.uk/

Other highlighted offerings are Gravity at Fire on Thursday from 12 p.m. until v late with a superstar D.J. line up including the magnificent Steve Pitron and then on Friday the wacky & wild “Kill Your Pets” at Ghetto serving up a mix of electro, techno & retro rave. Check the press for full details.

So that’s part one. Hold onto your horses for the next instalment & as we say....
Go There!! Be There!!
